I call myself a feminist

Inspired by a post I've read few months back.

 What exactly is feminism?

It is the advocacy of women's right on the ground of the EQUALITY of the sexes. Some would say that feminism is the notion that women are equal to  men. Some refuse to identify with feminism because they don’t want to be  perceived as "hating men". Others say feminism is a women’s right to control  her life, her body, and her future. And still others won’t align at all with  feminism because they believe it can’t co-exist with the traditional understanding of what it means to be a woman.

Let me simplify for you,

Women have a plain cupcake and men have a chocolate chip cupcake with chocolate icing and sprinkles. Realizing that this isn't fair, feminists have demanded to have icing and sprinkles too. Then, men have decided this isn't fair. Why should women get to improve their cake if men's cupcake isn't perfect, then they complain that they haven't got a cherry on top. When women try to point out that it's really more important that they have the same cupcake first before adding on extras, they get called 'radical', 'men haters' and 'not caring about men's cupcake at all. That's when people shout "why are you complaining?! Before, you didn't even have a cupcake, now you have one. We both have a cake, so we're "equal". This mentality gives rise to an ugly synonym of feminism, i.e. misandry.
Now you will say if feminism is about working towards gender equality then  what about men? And what about LGBT community. I believe those are real  issues too, and things that our society should work too to correct.
However, do many feminist ignore such issues because they hate men? NO.
The mixed feelings about addressing men's issue tend to stem from the fact  that men's issue tends to be the default in our society. We're a male dominant  society. It will shift the focus from women's issues, resulting in no progress  in women's part of  gender progress. So instead they focus more on women's issues and let others focus on other's issues and that clearly doesn't make a feminist "misandrist".

Thank you for reading :)
